Rien Poortvliet (1932-1995) was best known to the general public for his books about nature, hunting, farm life, his ancestors and the fantastic world of the gnome.

In his life, Poortvliet drew and painted thousands of illustrations and sketches. His realistic drawings immediately reflected his great love for nature.
