After getting his degree in Publicity and Advertising from the Art Academy in Rotterdam, Jan started his career at an advertising agency. In 1959 he left the world of advertising and started a career in comics. He worked at Toonder Studio’s and drew for, among others, Donald Duck magazine.
In 1972 he created the comic ‘Baron van Tast’, which became a wonderful medium for him to vent his unique ideas. In the world of the Baron ‘nothing was what it seemed’ and that played into Jan’s strengths perfectly. Many of Jan’s signature elements originated in this comic, like the shark fin and the hands.
In the eighties Jan van Haasteren started his collaboration with Royal Jumbo, and started making drawings especially for jigsaw puzzles, creating at least three jigsaw puzzles a year.
